The red-hued sandy beach at Firemore, near Poolewe, is where the locals come for summer bathing and watersports. The secret of this lovely destination is the water temperature. The gulf stream runs close by, so the waters here tend to be as warm as you're going to get on the western highland coast. Given its remote rural location it is probably no surprise there are no facilities at the beach.
The beach is mainly sand with some attractive rocks and rock pools. Just opposite the beach is the tiny rock and sand island of Dry Island or Eilean Tioram. It is possible to walk out to the island, but take care not to be cut off during the high spring tides.
At low tide, visitors are likely to spot sea-anglers and locals gathering mussels from the rocks. Highland cattle graze nearby. Sit on the golden sands and take in the breath-taking scenery. If you're prepared to wait long enough there's a good chance of spotting wildlife. As well as the usual sea-birds, eagles, seals, whales and dolphins have been spotted from the beach. We saw three young eagles playing here in 2017 - it was wonderful to see and hear them.

In peak season you'll probably be able to spot campervans parked next to the beach. There are plenty of good walks in the area with great views. There is no restriction on dog walking but livestock graze near the beach so dogs should be kept under control. A campsite is to be found alongside the beach. Payment for a spot is just ten pounds payable via an honesty box. There is no running water or toilets here so campers need to bring along whatever is needed for the duration of their stay. To access the beach, take the B8057 north of Poolewe towards Cove.

You say: "Just opposite the beach is the tiny rock and sand island of Ewe. At low tide it is possible to walk out to the island, but take care not to be cut off when the tide comes in." Isle Ewe is a mile or two out in Loch Ewe, and it is never possible to walk. I think you are referring to "Dry Island" or "Eilean Tioram" - but this is only cut off when there is a very very high spring tide (ie a handful of times a year). Also cost of camping is now £5 a night.
