Farr Bay is a stunning white sandy beach with plenty to see and do. The breathtaking scenery is home to an abundance of wildlife including, otters, seals, golden eagles and thriving seabird colonies. The beach is perfect for water sports, including kayaking, surfing and body boarding.

Just back from the beach is the imposing Farr Church built in 1774 on the site of a far older church. The graveyard has a beautifully carved early celtic cross.

The church, now the Strathnaver Museum (Labelled in the map above) has exhibitions and information on the Strathnaver Clearances and Clan Mackay. There are  places to park larger vehicles here. Take the road to the Farr Bay Inn and drive around and behind the inn and you will find a Car Park for patrons of the Inn. You can park here if your are eating or drinking at the Inn, or you could get a coffee and park at the Cafe which is just along the A836.

If you want to park in the museum car park just take a right after you leave the A836 and follow the road around and behind the Inn and in to the Museum Car Park.  Overhead view above shows all three places to park. Wherever you park, treat yourself to a hot coffee or a cold beer and show your appreciation for the ample parking here, and all within easy walking distance of a stunning sandy beach.

This collection continues to be enlarged through generous donations of items, Strathnaver Museum led research projects and discoveries of archaeological artefacts, adding to our understanding of the past.On the upper floor you will find The “Mackay Room” which tells the story of the Clan Mackay.  You can visit their Official Website here for more information.
